Manufacturing industry is a big place! We all know there are many sectors manufacturing a huge range of products. As engineers, it’s possible to obtain good ideas and new ways of doing things by observing how other industry manufacture and assemble their products. Importantly, it is possible to solve problems and come up with fresh thinking by seeing how others go about their production activities. Apart from that, for engineers it’s simply fascinating!

Well here you’ll find many of short videos showing how products are manufactured. Most are industrial and give a great insight into the processes common in various industry sectors.

By all means have a good luck around – it’s all interesting! Alternatively, here are a few ways you may want to use the list to add to your own knowledge and develop, or to improve your manufacturing SME :

• Look down the lists for products that are relevant or similar to your industry sector
• Look for those products that use similar materials
• Search for videos where similar or related manufacturing processes to yours are used
• Look out for products where they have automated processes - can you too?
• Observe videos where jigs, fixtures, templates & gauges have been used - any potential?
• Similarly look out for work-holding methods, manual handing and high-skilled expertise 
• Keep an eye out for the application of lean manufacturing principles, particularly 5S
• Look out for videos where CAD or digital data is assisting the manufacturing process
• Search for videos where people benefit from technical documentation or instructions

As ever, it’s all about tailoring good ideas, learning, spreading best practices and picturing improvements in your own small manufacturing business. Look out for potential improvements in the form of better quality, less defects, shorter cycle times and greater standardisation.
